A Memorable 3-Day Weekend in San Antonio: Balancing Work and Play

Recently, my son and I took off for a 3-day trip to San Antonio, diving into a whirlwind of culture, history, and some seriously good eats.

Tag along as I recount our escapades and the lessons learned—both profound and ridiculous.

Exploring the Sights

Our adventure tipped off with a leisurely amble down the famous San Antonio River Walk. Picture this: picturesque scenery, a peaceful vibe, and my son and me having deep conversations about the river's literary and historical significance. Okay, maybe we also argued about who got the last churro, but hey, bonding comes in all forms.

Culinary Delights and Historical Reverie

San Antonio and barbecue go together like teachers and caffeine. We hit up a local joint, devouring ribs that were almost as tender as my feelings after grading essays all night. We compared the experience to vivid descriptions in literature—succulent, rich, and totally satisfying. Over this meaty feast, we swapped creative ideas and possibly a few BBQ sauce stains.

Then it was off to the Alamo, where history buffs like me get their kicks. As an English teacher, I reveled in the chance to nerd out on historical facts, dragging my son through the storied past of Texas. Walking where legends once stood was both awe-inspiring and a solid reminder that history isn't just in textbooks—it's all around us, waiting to be discovered.

A Sporting Affair and Language Appreciation

The pinnacle of our trip? Watching the San Antonio Spurs live. The atmosphere was electric, the game was intense, and my son and I got to geek out over the eloquence of sports commentary. It's like Shakespeare, but with more slam dunks. We marveled at the rhetoric and expression, enhancing our appreciation for the art of effective communication—one slam dunk at a time.

Our 3-day San Antonio escapade was the perfect mix of education and relaxation. From the serene River Walk to the historic Alamo, and from indulging in BBQ to cheering at a basketball game, each moment was a delightful blend of learning and leisure. It reminded me that teaching, history, and making memories with my son are all parts of a beautiful, never-ending journey.

Planning this road trip was a no-brainer. After months of watching basketball from our sofa, I proposed we see the Spurs live and turn it into an epic road trip. My son's task: find the best seats without breaking the bank. Enter SeatGeek, our ticket fairy godmother.

Juggling a road trip around my remote teaching schedule? Piece of cake. It actually gives me more control over planning and packing. One must-have item: my adjustable, portable desk—a lifesaver from Amazon that's as versatile as it is essential. Whether lounging in bed, perched on the couch, or stationed at the hotel table, it’s my trusty sidekick in the remote teaching adventure.
