Exploring Coeur d'Alene, Idaho: A Remote Teacher’s Dream Stop
Summer is the perfect time for exploration, and for me, it’s a chance to blend my love for travel with remote teaching. My recent stop at Blackwell Island RV Resort on Lake Coeur d’Alene was the perfect escape while on my way north to Washington. I had a few short morning lessons to get through, but after that, I had the whole day ahead of me to explore this beautiful historic town.
The Blackwell Island RV Resort offered the ideal base to unwind. The resort is tucked on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene, offering easy access to water activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and simply lounging by the water. It's one of those places where you can truly relax, allowing you to balance your workday with moments of pure peace by the lake.
Local Farmers Market Fun
One of the best things about visiting a new place during the summer is discovering the local flavors, and the 5th Street Farmers Market was an absolute highlight. Held every Wednesday from May 15th through September 25th, from 4 pm to 7 pm, at 5th & Sherman Ave., this market brings together the best of the Pacific Northwest.
The market emphasizes fresh produce, flowers, pastries, art, music, and more, creating a vibrant atmosphere that captures the essence of the community. It's a great place to meet friendly locals, shop for unique souvenirs, and enjoy live music. The market is organized by the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association and serves as an inclusive place for local business owners and farmers to sell directly to consumers.
A Foodie's Paradise
When it comes to food, Coeur d'Alene truly did not disappoint. The town is filled with great places to grab a bite, and I made it a point to try a few local gems.
First up was The Pie Bar, where the toughest decision I faced was choosing between their chocolate and key lime pies. Why choose just one? I got both, and they were beyond delicious. The creamy, tangy key lime paired with the rich, indulgent chocolate was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. If you find yourself in Coeur d'Alene, don’t miss this place.
Then, I stopped by Everybody Burger, a local favorite. Known for their smash burgers, this spot did not disappoint. The burger was perfectly crispy on the edges and packed with flavor. It sold out just a few orders after mine, which goes to show how popular and delicious it is! I was grateful to get in when I did. You can find more information about their menu here.
Finally, Izzy’s fried chicken was an experience I won’t soon forget. I was so hungry and the smell was so intoxicating that I forgot to snap a picture before digging in! Crispy, flavorful, and juicy, it was the kind of fried chicken you crave during summer road trips. Trust me, it was worth every bite.
Honoring Veterans at the Memorial
During my stay, I also had the opportunity to visit the Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Coeur d'Alene. Located at 304 E Front Avenue, this ¾-acre park offers beautiful views of Lake Coeur d'Alene and features a monument honoring our nation's veterans.
The memorial includes five service flags and seals, as well as the POW-MIA flag and seal. Notably, it also features "Pappy's Bell," a large brass bell from the 1950s honoring Pappy Boyington, a hometown hero who became a U.S. Marine Corps fighter pilot during WWII.
A Remote Teacher's Perfect Getaway
If you’re someone who works remotely and has the flexibility to explore new places, Coeur d'Alene is the kind of town that offers both the serenity to focus on work and the excitement of discovering new things when the workday ends. From the peaceful lakefront views at Blackwell Island RV Resort to the vibrant local market and mouth-watering food scene, there’s no shortage of things to enjoy.
Being able to work while traveling gives you the freedom to create your own schedule and truly experience life in a way that’s different from the traditional 9-to-5 grind.
